Special Issue on Pre-Service Teacher Education
Issue Editor: Hilal Peker, PhD
The TESOL community lost a great scholar, Dr. Alex P. Davies, on October 22, 2020. He was a dedicated and influential academic who inspired a lot of scholars and students all around the world. Dr. Davies’ research primarily focused on pre-service teacher education and bilingual education. To honor his work and commitment to pre-service teacher education, we have dedicated this special issue to him.
Teacher preparation is the keystone to training and producing highly qualified teachers. Teacher education programs have the responsibility to keep up with current trends in PreK-12 curricula and pedagogical approaches as well as local and national legislation. As our world is ever-evolving, so too are the students and their families and communities from which our schools serve. In preparing pre-service teachers to meet the growing demands of our increasingly diverse student populations, teacher education programs must now consider students’ linguistic acquisition and development as they relate to both language learning (e.g., bilingual, ESOL, foreign language instruction) and content-area instruction. Within this scope and in the memory of our dear colleague, Alex, this special issue contains articles on Pre-Service Teacher Education, and teacher preparation and training. We will always remember you, Alex. May you rest in peace!
